PHARMACOKINETICS
Oral absorption of Fluoxetine (HCl) (Futine) is found to be 47.5%. The volume of distribution is found to be 20-42 l/kg and plasma protein binding is 94-98% and metabolism is reported extensively by Liver. Renal Excretion accounts for 60-80% and plasma half-life is 48-72hr (single dose) 7-15 days(plus metabolites).
INDICATIONS
Fluoxetine (HCl) (Futine) is primarily indicated in conditions like Bulimia nervosa, Control of muscarinic side effects of Neostigmine, Depression, Depressive illness, Obsessive compulsive disorders, Panic disorders, Parkinson’s disease, Suspected Methotrexate overdosage and can also be given in adjunctive therapy as an alternative drug of choice in Fibromyalgia.
ADVERSE DRUG REACTIONS
The severe or irreversible adverse effects of Fluoxetine (HCl) (Futine), which give rise to further complications include Serum sickness, Seizures, Extrapyramidal symptoms, Sinus, Bradycardia, Mania, Altered platelet function, Hypersensitivity Pneumonitis, Leucocytoclastic vasiculitis.
The symptomatic adverse reactions produced by Fluoxetine (HCl) (Futine) are more or less tolerable and if they become severe, they can be treated symptomatically, these include Drowsiness, Fatigue, Anxiety, Palpitation, Insomnia, Nervousness, Tremors, Weight Loss, GI upset, Sweating, Elevation of liver enzymes, Vison disturbance, Sinusitis, Erythema multiforme, Hyponatremia.
