Chemically it is N-[3-(β-D-glucopyranosyloxy)- 1,2-dimethoxy-10(methylthio)-9-oxo-5,6,7,9-tetrahydrobenzo [a ] heptalen-7-yl] acetamide[1] and has the empirical formula C10H21NO7.
MECHANISM OF ACTION:
Thiocolchicoside binds to GABA-A and strychnine-sensitive glycine receptors. Thiocolchicoside acting as a GABA-A receptor antagonist, its myorelaxant effects could be exerted at the supraspinal level, via complex regulatory mechanisms, although a glycinergic mechanism of action cannot be excluded.
INDICATIONS:
Relspasm is indicated for: Treatment of the painful muscular contractures in acute and chronic rheumatologic and orthopedic diseases (lumbago, sciatica, cervicobrachial pain, torticollis, periarthropathy, tendinopathy) or traumatology (muscle or tendinous injuries, luxation, fractures), in addition or not to an NSAID or an analgesic.
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION:
Severe muscular contracture: 2 – 4 tablets to be taken by mouth, twice daily for 5 to 7 days.
Mild to moderate muscular contracture: 2 tablets twice daily for 5 to 7 days.
PRECAUTIONS:
Reduce the dosage, as required, if diarrhea occurs. There are no data available of the effect on driving vehicles and using machines. Although only rare cases of drowsiness have been reported while taking Thiocolchicoside, this has to be taken into account when driving vehicles and operating machines.
INSTRUCTIONS:
Store in a cool & dry place below 25ºC.
Protect from light, heat and moisture.
