Roxastat 50mg Tablets contain the active ingredient roxadustat, a hypoxia-inducible factor prolyl hydroxylase inhibitor. This medication is used to treat symptomatic anemia in adult patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD).
Dosage and Administration:
- Standard Dosage: The typical starting dose is 50 mg taken orally three times a week, ensuring doses are not on consecutive days. The dosage may be adjusted based on individual hemoglobin levels, aiming to maintain target hemoglobin levels between 10 to 12 g/dL.
Administration: Roxastat can be taken with or without food. If a dose is missed and the next scheduled dose is more than 24 hours away, take the missed dose as soon as possible. If the next dose is less than 24 hours away, skip the missed dose and continue with the regular dosing schedule. Do not take two doses on the same day.
Common Side Effects:
- Hypertension (high blood pressure)
- Vascular access thrombosis
- Diarrhea
- Peripheral edema (swelling of limbs)
- Hyperkalemia (elevated potassium levels)
- Nausea

- Phosphate Binders and Multivalent Cation Products: Roxastat should be taken at least one hour after these products to avoid decreased absorption.
- Gemfibrozil or Probenecid: These medications can increase Roxastat levels; monitor hemoglobin levels and adjust the dose accordingly.
- Statins (e.g., simvastatin, rosuvastatin, atorvastatin): Roxastat may increase the levels of these drugs; monitor for side effects and adjust doses as needed.
